VANDENBERG AIR FORCE BASE (AP) — The U.S. Missile Defense Agency says a missile intercept test has failed.
The test involved the launch of a ground-based interceptor rocket from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California shortly after noon Wednesday and the launch of a target missile from the Kwajalein Atoll in the Pacific Ocean.
The Missile Defense Agency says the interceptor launched successfully but the planned intercept was not achieved even though all sensors performed as planned.
The agency says there will be an extensive investigation to determine the cause of the failure.
