Crews Battle 340-Acre Blaze On Vandenberg Air Force Base

VANDENBERG AIR FORCE BASE (AP) — Crews are working to contain a wildfire that has burned about 340 acres at the southern end of Vandenberg Air Force Base in Santa Barbara County.

Vandenberg spokesman Jeremy Eggers says the blaze was 10 percent contained late Thursday and no structures were threatened.

The fire erupted around 1 p.m. Thursday near Space Launch Complex-3 and was fueled by winds up to 29 miles per hour.

At one point six buildings were threatened by flames, but none were damaged.

Three helicopters and two aerial tankers battled the blaze, along with 28 fire engines.

Eggers says the blaze appears to have been started by a spark from a power line.
